Probably the reason I never heard one before is because I was just quickly in and out to look at NES games. Well, today I was looking for an RF switch for a Sega Genesis 3. I know they exist, because i own one. I also know I'm not looking for an RF switch for a genesis 2 because, do to happenstance, I own one of those, too, and I know they're not compatable with genesis 3s. They don't even have the same number of pins - a G3 RF switch has 9 pins, while a G2 has only 3. Anyway, I looked around briefly, noticed that they now have their NES games out in the open (I think the rarest games they had were Mega Man 2 and 5, but they also had Bible Adventures and some other unlicensed games) After looking around, I noticed they had an RF adapter on the wall for a Genesis 2, with a bunch of other stuff. I looked over there to see if I could find one for the Genesis 3, too. The manager asked what I was looking for, and I said, "I'm looking for something like that" - pointed to the G2 switch - "except for theGenesis 3." He said, "They're the same thing, the av wire for the Genesis 2 is the same as for the Genesis 3. I said, "Well, I'm not looking for an av cable, I'm looking for an RF switch." He said, "You can use the Genesis 2 thing for the Genesis 3" I said, "No, yo can't; I own the Genesis 2 RF switch and I know. I need a Genesis 3 RF switch" He said something like, "They don't make one for Genesis 3" I said, "Yes, they do - I know because I own one!!" He gave some condescending smirk that would incline one to punch him. When I got home I looked at the box my G3 RF switch came in, and though it doesn't say it's for the Genesis 3 explicitly, there is a Genesis 3 clearly in the picture. GrragaaAHAHaahagrAH! I certainly now know what other people were talking about when they said they met Funcoland employees who act like they know everything when they're in fact clueless.
