I thought Final Fantasy 4 was much harder than 7. I beat every boss in Final Fantasy 7 on my first try, with 2 exceptions (that I can remember): the first boss, because it says "attack when its tail is up" rather than "don't attack when it's tail is up," so it took me two tries, and the second to last boss, because I didn't understand the party switching thing. I don't think I actually ever died against it, though, I just turned the off the game. Oh, and the weapons, because I hate breeding and racing chocobos. Then again, I think it took me no more than 2 tries to beat any boss in Final Fantasy 6. It took me quite a few tries to beat Zeromus. Anyway, I wouldn't doubt that if someone played Final Fantasy 4 now they wouldn't appreciate it as much as when it was released. The introduction of the active time battle system in FF4 has to be the single most important innovation in RPGs ever, so much so that it's been used in various forms for all subsequent Final Fantasy's, and other Square RPGs as well, such as Chrono Trigger. Now it might be harder to appreciate what a big step up Final Fantasy 4 was from ealier turn-based RPGs since ATB can now be taken for granted. Oh, well, that's not the only reason I like FF4 the best. It still has my favorite FF soundtrack. FF7 has one of the worst - if it's not worse than the Famicom FF's, its soundtrack is at least worse, IMO, than the Super Famicom games. There are only about 5 good songs on its soundtrack, the battle theme, the overworld theme, one-winged angel, and the theme of Red XIII's home town. I know that's only 4, but maybe I'm forgetting one.
I LOOOOOOVE Flying Omelette!
