I liked all the classes in the original Final Fantasy, to some degree at least. However, I think the best parties were 4 knights or black belts. I thought that Red Mages might not be useful in Final Fantasy 5, but I might reconsider that. If I wanted to have a good magic user, I could have either a black or white mage with the other type of magic equiped as a secondary ability, and be able to cast more types of magic than a Red Mage. Or I could give a fighter, knight or monk, perhaps, one type of magic, probably white since the fighter could use their own attacks rather than black magic, and have a character that could be more useful than a Red Mage, too. But now I'm thinking that if I took a master and changed him/her to a Red Mage with one of the fighter's skills (hold sword with 2 hands, or 30% hp increase) I could have a character that's powerful and is good with both types of magic, so that could be very versitile! I just wish it didn't take so long to earn a ninja's 2-sword ability, or that a ninja had more hp and was stronger or simply was more useful on their own.
I LOOOOOOVE Flying Omelette!
